Thomas Arvid:
Redefining the Modern Still Life

You may have to wait years for one of Thomas Arvid’s coveted original paintings of wine, but you can still put his delicious work on your table in time for the holidays. This internationally celebrated Atlanta artist is releasing the first retrospective book of his work at the end of November. “Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life” features more than eighty vibrant color images of Arvid’s larger-than-life oil paintings, sketches and collages along with insight into the artist’s lifestyle, inspiration and imagination.

The book pictorially traces Arvid’s career from the first wine painting he did more than a decade ago through the images that motivated Art Business News (May 2003) to proclaim he “launched a major art trend … with his super-realistic paintings of wine” to the incredibly detailed and finely crafted paintings he creates today. His work is featured in more than fifty of the finest galleries in the U.S., Canada and Japan, and collectors are willing to wait four years for one of his originals. Limited edition reproductions of his paintings often sell out the day they are released.

Arvid's appeal stems from his ability to capture a moment and subject that is both familiar and special. Arvid, a frequent visitor to Napa Valley and a passionate wine collector, shares, "My art is about more than wine. The paintings, like wine, are about celebration, sharing a moment and an experience with another person. I take the time to see and explore details, just as you do when relaxing with a glass of wine." Critics praise Arvid's work as "masterfully" painted. Art historian Maria Phillips writes, " His engagement in the process of painting results in images whose presence transcends the subject matter at the same time it meticulously describes it … creating in his present body of work a memory of great promise for the future."

A beautiful hard-bound coffee table book, “Arvid: Redefining the Modern Still Life” sells for $75. It is also available in a special collector’s limited edition which sells for $1250. These special collector leather-bound books are presented in a wine crate custom-made in Napa Valley and include three pen-and-ink limited edition serigraphs.
